The opening of 1 kids’ fablab in each partner’s venue represents the main concrete output of the project.
In conceiving the shared definition and co-creation of the kids’ fablabs, partners are inspired by the movement developed and evolved by the Centre for Bits and Atoms at MIT, when Prof. Neil Gershenfeld first began a course in digital design and fabrication in 1998. According to the Fablab concept, open spaces are provided to the public so that people can access tools, trainings, and designs in digital fabrication. In its global evolution and spread, the Fablab concept has also benefitted from a wave of social interest in making, hacking, and tinkering.
Setting up new co-creation spaces, where we will organise workshops based on what was learned during Transnational workshops, will thus positively impact the partners’ local context. A new set of activities will be included in the partners’ regular programme, which will allow for new interaction with a diversified audience; from children to schools and families.
By the end of the project, 4 kids’ fablabs will be officially opened to the public at Explora, Labora, National Print Museum and Neapolis.
